Incredible!
I dont know anything about Bad Bunny or his music. But that was a joyous performance. And I loved when he said God Bless America, he went on to name every country in the Americas.
I need that joy right now. That exuberance. That celebration. A little healing going inside right now.
Plus, the MAGAs are no doubt losing their shit.
We got to watch all of those staggeringly beautiful people. They watched Kid Rock.

But I struggle understanding rock and roll in English. Does anyone know what Ray Davies was singing in Louie Louie ?

(6,105 posts)Reminded me of the movie In the Heights. I really enjoyed that movie because it was such a joyous explosion of Latin culture. I got the same feeling from this show.

(825 posts)Then he said, God bless America and named every country in the Americas and we were cheering him on the whole way! What a fabulous performance. Not ostentatious and very down to earth and relatable.

(11,879 posts)It was happy and joyous and celebrated diversity and pride and families and elders and children and love. Every minute was amazing tho I didnt understand every spoken word, the messages were clear in everyones smiles and energy. I think it was smart not to subtitle it, readers would have missed the energy. More please!!

enjoyed the message very much, that America is all of us. The fact that message enrages MAGA tells you all you need to know about them.

LisaM
(29,540 posts)So it's a mix and Spanish and English names and I like that.
Do I wish the show had been a bit more bilingual? Frankly, yes. But I also enjoyed every second of it, and its positive message transcended language completely. It certainly outdid Kendrick Lamar feeding his personal grudge against Drake!

(2,531 posts)I did not enjoy the music very much. (and I speak Spanish.) And I guess I'm too old not to find the dancing a tad vulgar. But I did love the production--the energy, the colors, the celebration of Latin cultures and Latin contributions to our great melting pot. I loathe football but I tuned in to the halftime show mainly because I knew it was melting MAGA brains. All in all, I'm glad I did.

(8,189 posts)Happy I got to see it, all the bright colors, songs, dancing, exuberance! Seeing it from northern Wisconsin in cold and snow just added to the joy.
Thank you.

The stupidest people in the world were urging ICE to apprehend him and deport him to Mexico.
But of course that ain't gonna happen 👎🏻
PS
Btw, I thought that the show was culturally informative and very fascinating to watch.

(17,462 posts)I know only a smattering of Spanish, but I honestly don't see why it's important to understand the language - any language. I can listen to Nessun Dorma a gazillion times and I don't know the language, but it moves me to tears every single time and just touches me somewhere deep inside. Same goes for many songs sung in other languages.
Music is about the feeling and emotion you get when hearing it, and this was definitely evoking an emotion of pure joy and happiness and unity. Lord knows we needed that more than ever these days.
Aristus
(71,897 posts)It was wonderful.
And you're right. You don't have to understand the language of an opera in order to enjoy it artistically. Sometimes, knowing what they're saying can be a liability. "O Mio Babbino Caro", from Gianni Schicci, for example. The music is transportingly lovely; an obvious paean to immortal love. Until you know the meaning of the Italian lyrics. Then, it's basically a teenaged girl saying "Oh my darling Daddy! Please, please, PLEASE let me marry him! He's SO handsome! If you let me marry him, I'll go and buy a ring! And if you don't let me marry him, I'll go to the river and jump in! You watch me! Please, please, PLEASE let me marry him! I want to DIE! I want to DIE!..."
You get the idea. Takes a little of the eternal romance out of it...
