Ghosts of LeMay

Rumor has it that the ghost who wrote the president's address to the nation was General Curtis LeMay. At least I'm trying to spread this rumor, since it became obvious to me as I watched the sedated sociopath-in-chief lie to the country. My generation recognizes the “bomb them back to the stone age” bit from the Vietnam war, around the time he was the VP candidate when George Wallace ran for president in 1968.

They won five states, 46 electoral votes, and over 13% of the popular vote. (And in states that today have significant maga support. Is it DNA or environment?) Wallace and LeMay ran on hatred and fear, the very features of the maga cult. For those not familiar with LeMay, let me briefly list a few things that define him.

Read James Carroll's outstanding “House of War” (Houghton Mifflin, 2006) for a detailed history of his fire-bombing non-military targets in Japan. He said that killing civilians didn't bother him. He strongly recommended getting a head-start on WW3 by dropping 133 atomic bombs on 70 Russian cities. He despised President Kennedy, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when he advocated war even after JFK resolved it.

“Killing Japanese didn't bother me much at the time,” LeMay later said. “I suppose if I had lost the war, I would have been tried as a war criminal.” Think about this, as you watch reports on Hegseth firing various U.S. military leaders. They are the ones who have told the president the truth about the war in Iran. Thus, who is being promoted to fill top positions?

The chances of Iran accepting the 15 demands of the administration are zero. Those demands are equal to an unconditional surrender. Likewise, this administration is not going to accept Iran's demands, which would be admitting defeat. The idea that the administration will wrap up participation in two to three weeks is short sighted. If the president tries to claim victory and walk away, that still leaves Iran, Israel, and significant American interests in the Middle East.

Then what? Netanyahu, a man with no more conscience than LeMay, and who is the worst war criminal of this era, will most likely continue to dictate our foreign policy. He is the greatest threat to Israel. On a pod cast yesterday, a retired high ranking military man said that in the past week, 80% of Iranian missiles are hitting targets in Israel. How long until Netanyahu resorts to nukes?
