Pete Hegseth apparently created a huge mess for Donald Trump in his rush to keep the 79-year-old president happy.
Insiders have revealed that the defense secretarys abrupt maneuver to cancel the deployment of U.S. troops to Poland triggered an angry phone call from Trump, who was forced to explain that Poland was not one of the European allies that had earned his wrath.
Hegseth, 45, blindsided officials on both sides of the Atlantic last week when he canceled the deployment of 4,000 troops to Poland at the eleventh hour. The decision stirred confusion within the Pentagon and quickly sparked a firestorm of criticism from American lawmakers and European allies.
Even the president was stumped by the move, a current and a former U.S. official told The Wall Street Journal.

Between Hegseth's alcoholism and Trump's dementia we're doomed.

(2,956 posts)What you're telling me is that the psych/dementia patient is mad at the drunkard for planning an attack withdrawing military support from *THE WRONG ALLY*
?????!!!!!!!?????
A couple guidelines for these two incompetents to act by:
1) If they are our ally, (say, a country we have a mutual defense pact with) WE SHOULD BE PREPARED TO DEFEND THEM!
2) If you get orders saying that the demented one wants you to prepare to withdraw support from a country, make damn sure you are targeting the intended country. Please check with someone who can pass BOTH a field sobriety test and a cognitive function test before proceeding.
Perhaps these two rules should be printed in large bold type that can be read through the bottom of a whiskey glass. (I recommend laminating to protect from spillage.) Permanently stationing someone at the Pentagon on-call who can administer both sobriety and cognitive function tests should be considered as well.

Belated ETA: I had it wrong. The offense was that Haguesbreath was withdrawing troops, as in weakening our capabilities to fulfill mutual defense obligations, FROM THE WRONG ALLY.

(11,556 posts)he ever said it. Between the two of them, we don't have 2 brain cells. Or, Petie doesn't have a clue about the world at large - a very likely possibility. God, what a mess.
