A big and brutal heatwave will smother the Eastern US next week! Highs 95-100. Heat index 100-115. What really makes the #heatwave standout
the size and longevity
covering half the nation and lasting a full week for many. Ironically #Florida will be cooler than most places next week. With all this said, the heat dome intensity will not be unprecedented like the Europe one.

A dangerous heat wave will impact the central & eastern U.S. starting Sun and continue through the Jul 4 weekend. Highs will be in the 90s-100s with heat indices of 100110° (locally 115°). Warm nights will offer little relief. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and seek A/C.

(963 posts)Here in the Keys, weve had a heat index of 105 for many days in a row. Just checked my youngest daughters weather in Dunedin (Tampa area); the heat index is currently 108. The humidity is stifling.
Tough on this boomer living on a boat w/o AC but the water and a swim are ten seconds away. Continue to think positive
Im positive its hot!

(26,832 posts)Heat indexes here in western NY will be 95 to 105 all week and extending into part of the next week. Temps in the 80s overnight. Very high humidity.
Don't know if it will help, but I bought a portable, battery operated fan for when I need to go outdoors. It might just blow the hot air around. I will stay indoors in AC most of the time.
A few things I did in a heat wave last summer helped when outdoors. Carry a tumbler cup of ice water, and use a wide umbrella to shield me from the sun.
