Alberta’s election agency announced Monday it has approved a proposed referendum question on the province separating from Canada.

The question seeks a yes or no answer to: “Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”

Elections Alberta says the proponent — the Alberta Prosperity Project and its chief executive officer, Mitch Sylvestre — have until early January to appoint a financial officer for its petition campaign, after which signature collection can begin.

Alberta is the most right-wing province in the country and I expect this could get traction going forward. They're already working on a law to take the province out of the Canada Pension Plan. Nothing like destabilizing the country more than Trump has already succeeded in doing with his tariffs.

The amended question is: Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?

I don't really see much of a difference, except for the term "sovereign country".

Neither by Ethnicity and official language of the legislature (English).

An independent state they cannot become. Québec, as a distinct nation with a majority of French-speaking citizens Ethnicity and official language of the provincial legislature could be recognized by the UN Charter as an independent state. It's not the case for Alberta.

the majority of Albertans do not support separation even though the despicable provincial government is doing everything they can do to support this through various legislative acts while trying to pretend they are only working to be more 'democratic' in it's behavior.

The majority of Albertans also do not support leaving the Canadian Pension Plan much as, again, this despicable party would wish it to be so as they would like to get their hands on the money and use it to support the oil industry instead of putting it in a lock box as it currently is under the federal government policy.
