Leaders of two House committees are privately angry over Speaker Mike Johnsons deal to hold a House vote on a Senate bill that seeks to respond to the nations worst aviation disaster in more than two decades.
Johnson and House GOP leaders are planning a vote Monday evening on the bipartisan ROTOR Act, which the Senate passed unanimously late last year and is championed by Commerce Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has gathered significant support for the measure in recent weeks. His bill would address various issues tied to the January 2025 mass-fatality air crash near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which killed 67 people.
Last month, Johnson promised Cruz a House vote on the bill as lawmakers raced to avoid another lengthy government shutdown. But House Transportation Chair Sam Graves and House Armed Services Chair Mike Rogers on Thursday unveiled their own legislation to tackle the disaster and are upset that Johnson has cleared the way to OK Cruzs ROTOR Act before the House was able to consider their bill, according to three people familiar with the matter.
We have seen this strategy before leadership making bad deals to survive week to week, one of these people said, who like others in this story was granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive issue. The person argued that Johnson is jamming a bill through with no House input and that passed the Senate before a final report about the crash was released by the National Transportation Safety Board.

We could always have Jeffries as Speaker, the way it SHOULD be.
