Mystery surrounds 'Freedom Fuel' gas stations touted by Trump

Source: The Hill

In recent days, President Trump has touted 25 “Freedom Fuel” gas stations, but little is publicly known about the stations or who is running them.

The gas stations, located in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, are selling fuel at relatively low prices, and Trump’s admiration comes as he’s trying to pressure other gas retailers to cut their prices as well.

A White House official has described the Freedom Fuel Network as a private company and said that the administration is not involved with it. It also is not receiving federal funding, and there is no other entity or person subsidizing the cost, per the White House.
...
Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at Gulf Oil, said the prices they were selling at “do not work in today’s market.”

Surely, this is being done through promised tax breaks. These companies literally cannot break close to even with these prices, and dozens of gas stations are not simply going to eat massive debt just for patriotic exuberance. I can tell you on a personal level that this is a very MAGA area and the gas station I actually recognize is filled with MAGA folk (it's literally across the street from a firing range).

Using tax breaks instead of direct funding is a way to put a thumb on the market to benefit the government that would have the GOP howling "communist" if it was being done by Mamadani. But since it is being done in service of Trump's corruption, I'm sure they are 100% on board the Toady Express.

Funny how suddenly republicans are totally on board the government being in the private sector and dictating what they should be charging. You know if a Dem even suggested this idea the weeping and gnashing of teeth calling it communism or socialism would be deafening. I’m sure this is some stunt that has Trumps backing somehow and is just designed to make it through the next few months before they close. Everyone knows stations don’t make much profit on gas but the convenience store items they sell. So any “freedom” gas they sell these stations are clearly taking a bath on.

Sounds an awful lot like COMMUNISM to me too. And what about the guy down the street whose price is 50cents higher and now losing business? Does he cut his price to match and lose money or lose business to a GOVERNMENT run/controlled gas station undercutting his price?

WTF

today. That's about 50 cents cheaper than it is in my area of PA. Most of the difference is state gas taxes.
