5 glaring warning signs for Republicans in this year's midterm elections

(NPR) Times Square's digital screens have nothing on the glaring warning signs for Republicans ahead of these upcoming midterm elections.

President Trump, his policies and actions are unpopular. The GOP continues to lose special elections. Republicans are retiring at faster rates than Democrats. And people are saying they'd rather Democrats control Congress.

At this point, all of it adds up to trouble for the party in power.

1. Count me as saying it's too early to tell if this is durable. Are we peaking?

Tax rebate checks are imminent. Witholding refunded per the BBB or something like that. Fed interest rate cuts on a time delay to kick in by July or so. Keeping the populace at a fever pitch against the incumbents is still an emerging art. Trump is moderating his rhetoric already. We still have M$M to tackle, and we never found a way around them. Smart phones, YouTube, social media and apps? Remain to be seen.

My bet would be we should count on a 7% swing in our direction, all else is fraught emotion, and that Congress will be Dem in the mid 220's seats, Senate 49-51 one way or another.

Ignore the pundits and polls. Keep working.

...but they don't seem to be very good at seeing (or acknowledging) warning signs.

Of course, a Dem swing depends on a free & fair election with no interference from Repugs, & I have my doubts about that.

4. Very true, but we can't in any way let up. Maga Republicans are very aware of this and will try to subvert the midterms

anyway they can (legal and illegal) to interfere and prevent fair elections this year and forever.

They have broken so many laws and are in so deep they must try anything and everything to hang on to power, or many in the Trump administration will face serious legal exposure, and in some cases go to prison.

We must have plans and strategies to counter them, realizing they will do and try ANYTHING to stop fair elections in November. It is existential for them and for us.
