Sen. Bill Cassidy on Trump: 'Sometimes he acts as if Congress is merely an appendage'
(Politico) Sen. Bill Cassidy appeared to question President Donald Trump's view of Congress, saying in an interview that he is not sure Trump grasps that Congress "is a separate body, separate from the presidency."
"Sometimes he acts as if Congress is merely an appendage, and, frankly, sometimes Congress acts like it's an appendage," the Louisiana Republican said in a pre-taped interview with CBS' "Face the Nation" that aired Sunday.
The latest criticism in a public clash between the two leaders, Cassidy also told host Margaret Brennan that he would be focused on affordability, including the cost of health care and groceries, if he were president.
"If I were president, I would be focused on those people that they have, my people, our people, us at the kitchen table. How do you make their life better? And that's what I think the president should be focused on," Cassidy said.

The lack of spines in the Republican Party led to that attitude and you went right along with it.

(47 posts)If he thinks Trump "occasionally" sees Congress as an appendage, it's Congress's job to show him they are an equal branch with power and agency.
These people are so cowed and self-serving.
Imho the primary loyalty for any politician is preservation and protection of the Constitutional order. That means maintaining robust internal checks and balances and also highlighting our right as individuals to be free from governmental harassment.
The next loyalty is to the people that these politicians serve. It's a close second, but you cannot advocate a course of action that benefits people if it violates the Constitution.
There are no other loyalties. Rather, there shouldn't be any, but too many of our current crop of politicians are loyal to party and self and nothing else.
