(11,401 posts)If I do add ketchup, I add it on the side.
When I'm home and eating fries I made myself from frozen, I might put mayo or honey mustard on the side for dipping.

(1,943 posts)Im from the Midwest (Iowa) and I dont think Ive ever seen anyone use mustard on fries
That said, I like a good sweet-spicy barbeque sauce for dipping (air-fried are the best!) and I was probably never a normal midwesterner to begin with, so what do I know?

(43,275 posts)Ate them au naturel, by choice.
When I use a condiment it's always on the side. Sometimes ketchup,
BBQ sauce, wing sauce, mayo or horseradish sauce.

(6,329 posts)My usual is ketchup or mayo on the side. I like malt vinegar splashed on if it's a fish and chips kind of meal. Not long ago, I tried dipping some in garlic-lemon aioli and it was soooo good! 😋I plan on mixing some up next time I have fries.

(29,431 posts)For a few years, there was an Irish pub type restaurant near us that served sweet potato fries with what they called blueberry ketchup. It was a fantastic combination.
We were sad to see the place close.

Or, A-1.
That's mostly a steak fry thing, though.
For skinny fries, I'm good with ketchup to dip them.
It's literally the only thing I ever use ketchup for.

The other 5%'s are "crab fries" from Chickie & Pete's (old bay seasoning and some kind of cheese sauce) or Thrasher's beach fries.... Fresh cut, cooked in peanut oil, and they only have salt and vinegar available. I usually just add salt there.
I did go through a phase when I was about 12 years old where I liked mayonnaise on them.

I love onion rings w mayo! Never use ketchup on onion rings.
Trying to remember if Nathan's on Coney Island adds a cheese sauce if requested to their thick crinkle fries. I think so. Me like!
My sis and I make an annual visit (about 20 yrs?) there to see Fri night Summer Fireworks. Don't think we've been there since post-Covid.
