Not today, but about 25 years ago, I heard a few times that I looked like Michael Andretti, race-car driving son of Mario Andretti.

(23,137 posts)I have been told at points in my life that I was the spitting image of these two below.
Today, I'm not sure who I look like.
When I was young, I was told looked like a young Rick Danko:

As I aged a bit, put on some weight and grew out my beard, I was told I looked like Lowell George:

True Dough
(27,352 posts)I've never heard of either of those people.
Now, LuckyCharms? I'd heard about LuckyCharms all my life!

(1,580 posts)Now I look like Liz Taylor in her old age - not aging as gracefully as Id hoped 🧐🙄😬
mopinko
(73,974 posts)of national velvet liz at the same age. it came as a shock to me, cuz my sisters convinced me i was a little troll.
biophile
(1,580 posts)I was not lovely in my teenage years- glasses, no style, long straight hair and bad skin. But by my 30s I had a comfort with myself, gotten contacts and (mostly) outgrown acne.
A friend saw a picture of me at age 33 and said Oh my God, (Biophile), you were hot! The real twist was the incredulous tone in her voice and the were - like, OMG, what the hell happened to you? 😏.
mopinko
(73,974 posts)i WAS pretty when i was younger. i guess im not bad for an old lady, but
when my ex used to tell me i was pretty i was almost insulted. like- how stupid does he think i am?
1 of many reasons i dont talk to my sisters much.
the whole thing was rly reinforced in the days i used to hang out w my younger sister. im objectively better looking than her. i just am. she has my moms schnoz and crooked teeth. but she always put so much more effort into looking good. she was much better than me at makeup. so she got way more attention than i did.
it taught me a lot about beauty in america. these rich women who do all that plastic surgery, and go to such lengths to b beautiful r being valued for the lengths they go to, not the results.
biophile
(1,580 posts)The women look grotesque with all that surgery. I understand an eyelid lift or maybe a chin tuck but the extreme stuff is actually frightening. The cheek implants and slant eye pulling is freaky. I stopped dyeing my hair- Im done pretending that Im not 70. My husband is 80 and Ive told him that no matter how old I am- Im always 10 years younger than him! ☺️
mopinko
(73,974 posts)for quite a few yrs ppl wd insist it was just frosted, and who did it? now its silver. i love it.
never wore makeup after my 20s either. it felt like a little lie, and i just dont lie.
maybe thats what those men want, a woman who lies.
Aristus
(72,545 posts)My late mother-in-law kept up the hair-dying and plastic surgery until she died. She would have looked much better without all of that.

No shame in that!
biophile
(1,580 posts)But I was never a great beauty- just the interesting combination of light skin, dark hair, and blue eyes with dark brows. It was that similar combination that made the resemblance seem greater than it ever was.

But I think my sister looks more like her.
And had a high school teacher that called me Sophia because he thought I looked like Sophia Loran.
Of course now it's with grey hair since I became allergic to hair dyes.

(54,352 posts)felt as if I was watching myself when I was young. It turns out it was the British actress Brenda Blethyn who later went on to play roles such as "Vera," one of my all-time favorite shows. At the time I was so amazed by the likeness to young me, I actually tried checking around to see if we might be related somehow since my roots are British. Never found anything, but it was weird.
