Suzanne Vega - Luka

Suzanne Vega releases “Luka” 39 years ago this weekend. She said she once received a fan letter about it:

“Dear Suzanne,

Luka is the most compelling piece of music I’ve heard in a long time. There are no words 2 tell U all the things I feel when I hear it.

I thank God 4 U,
Prince”

Yes, THAT Prince.

I was 20 when that song came out, it got a decent amount of airplay on The Cities 97 in Minneapolis.

She along with Sinead O'Connor, Celine Dion, Tracy Chapman and Lisa Gerrard will always stop me dead in my tracks with their amazing voices.

I just watched that video for the very first time and it's pretty triggering. I am sorry to say that the song haunts me all these years and yet it's only today that I focused on the lyrics. It makes the video even more haunting.
