Polk County to decide Runnells council seat next week after uncommon tie in special election

RUNNELLS, Iowa — Residents in Runnells may have to wait until next week to learn who will fill one of the city’s at-large council seats after a race in a special election ended in a tie.

Write-in votes played a major role in Tuesday’s special election, which was held to fill three seats.

In the mayor’s race, Josh Davis won with 54 votes while running unopposed.

In the two-year at-large city council race, no candidate filed to run. According to the Polk County Election Office, 60 write-in votes were cast, with 37 going to Jay McCrea.
