Merchantville splits, with progressive winning one seat

Organization-backed Sean Fitzgerald and progressive Kim Brady have won the Democratic nomination for township committee in Merchantville. Brady’s win is a victory for the struggling South Jersey progressive Movement.

Brady was the top vote-getter with 332 votes, followed by Fitzgerald with 313 votes. They defeated Armie Miller (307) and the other organization candidate, Ruby Delarosa (277).

Steve Whalen and Mary Martz are not seeking re-election.

Merchantville is a Democratic stronghold. Mikie Sherrill carried it by over 40 points last year
