Frank Morano (R) wins Staten Island City Council special election in landslide

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The landslide winner of the highly contentious race for the South Shore City Council seat vacated at the end of January by Joe Borelli is Frank Morano.

With 99% of the votes counted, Frank Morano, 40, beat out Cliff Hagen, 58, and Griffin Fossella, 27, who is the son of Borough President Vito Fossella

“We can celebrate, and I hope we are going to celebrate for a long time, but the hard work of governing begins today. The hard work of the election that we have coming up begins today,” said Morano in his victory speech.

“In my view, the whole reason I ran is because I think Staten Island needs a champion. Staten Island needs an advocate. Staten Island needs a defender, and I’m excited to be that person,” he added.
