Hosting your own Mastodon server

https://paulstamatiou.com/hosting-your-own-mastodon-server/

Mastodon just keeps getting better. There's more authentic conversations and far less linkbait and thread spam from influencers. It feels like a place I'd prefer spending more of my time to catch up on things.

With my interest in Mastodon, I recently decided I wanted to take the next step and host my own Mastodon server for my account: @stammy@stammy.design. In my previous post about Mastodon I provided some details about different routes you could take to self-host Mastodon. Today, I'll show you how you can host your own Mastodon instance, step-by-step.

And enjoy some 60 screens worth of detailed explanation. You would use only a subset, since they cover different hosting options.

Pretty massive.

Links in his domain seem empty (is it my ad-blocker?) but links in the article, based on a quick check, seem OK.

If you're interested, go for it.

It took me a little while to start following enough people that my home page now populates with posts and I don't have to search so much.

I followed a bunch of political/journalist types when I first joined, but not many of them are active there. (With the exception of Teri Kanefield https://mas.to/@Teri_Kanefield@law-and-politics.online )

So my time at Mastodon is more about following artists (I'm a watercolor beginner) instead of political stuff... I wonder if that will change as Twitter continues it's slow fizzle.

(and to actually address the OP, I won't be setting up my own server anytime soon. )

Just putting it out there for anyone who would want to. No need to crush Elon. He's doing a great job of crushing himself.

I suspect that he's somehow laundering money, but I have even less time free for SEC detective work than for setting up servers.

Let's see if he gambles his financial future on the power ball lottery. I think he has better chances with the lottery than with his gigantic brain.
