Poker Face
Rian Johnson has now delivered not only my favorite movie of 2022 but also an early contender for favorite TV series of 2023.
Natasha Lyonne plays a card shark who can tell when people are lying. On the run from a Vegas mob boss, shes traveling from town to town solving murders.
Lyonne is channeling Columbo in her investigations, and the show has a lot of nods to 70s TV like Incredible Hulk, or even further back to The Fugitive. Its packed with guest stars as well.
First four eps are on Peacock Premium. The first is available to everyone as well.

(417 posts)Love those old references that are unexpected and that not everyone will get. There was also one about Gene Hackman, which would have been a reference to the Conversation (a movie I really love). Also good photography. Scenes are layered, as in seen from different perspectives and then goes back later to show where Lyonne was at the time. Love it, and definitely recommend it.

(12,743 posts)First episode is free, but then you need a 4.99 subscription for it. The finale is today, so you don't need to keep the subscription.

(25,270 posts)I was hoping they'd wrap it up. And just when it looked like it would have a happy ending, they had to open it up for a second season.
