it isn't specifically about pets...
We have two young, small squirrels that climbed up our small enclosed cat area. It was a weird tiny porch, our cats hang out there now that it is enclosed with screen and hardware cloth.
Anyway, these two young squirrels have been on the walls all day, now they are up in a corner with their heads under the piece of wood at the top.
When DH went to try to scare them off, they didn't move at all.
So, what do I do? I don't want to harm the little critters, but I don't know what I should do.

(26,472 posts)They may be dead ?
Any idea if poisons have been placed out anywhere ?
A friend of mine had a baby possum crawl onto his porch and die.
😕

(18,193 posts)their tails are moving, all day they were climbing all over the enclosure....it's just as it has started to get dark that they have hidden their heads and seem to be trying to get into shelter under the board at the top.

(12,463 posts)Birds are unaffected by capsicum but squirrels are. Sprinkle some cayenne powder on the seeds.

(18,193 posts)I found a wildlife rehab near-ish...well, it's a ways, but I don't want the little guys to die, so maybe they will direct me to someone who can help.

(20,399 posts)Talk to them and see what they say. They should be able to tell if these little guys are old enough to survive on their own and provide help if that's what they need.
Good luck, and please keep us posted!

(18,193 posts)I really want them to be okay.
I've seen another one about their size running up and down the tree today. I wonder if they got into the fenced yard and can't figure out how to get out and back to the tree. It's chain link.

(18,193 posts)one of them was dead, brought to the door by our dog (son says it had been dead for a while)...not sure where the other one is. DH is going to check in the yard to see if he can find it. Maybe it made it back to the tree. Either way, I don't need the dog bringing it in.
I'm sad for the poor little critters.

(18,193 posts)were all over the area where the two were yesterday.
We put the dead one out by the tree and they stopped looking.
But, there were 4 babies hanging around recently, now there are 3, so I think the other one made it home.

(18,193 posts)and it looked like the one was attacked by something. Probably a feral cat. We have a couple of really big ones around here.
