Blackness, steel of Night
Starless clouded sky
No landmarks, no compass
Lost upon the sea
Waves roar, the ship responds
Wildly upon the swaying hills
Water sprays, and then, deluge
All is cold, wind-blown, and fear
A scan around the deck
All is chaos, loss, and tempest
Men fall from the sides like flimsy dolls
There is no way to survive
When the storm opens its greedy maw
To swallow all there is upon the waves

Suddenly a spark of light
Rising from the East
A glimmer of hope cyclic
Flash, black, flash again
Turn the rudder, align the sails,
Head towards the light
Siren’s call? Rescue beacon?
The only hope we have
Sail steady forward on the raging waves
The light grows stronger still
Finally salvation grabbing our attention
From the coastal harbor in the distance
Sail onward
