Early morning
Stars still visible
Out on the road
Alone
No fixed destination
No other cars
On this country highway
Through infinite grassland
I take my time
Driving towards the horizon
Past the occasional house
Where inside the sleepers will wake
At the crack of dawn
And their daily work
Fields cover the miles
Between
On the eastern horizon
A faint haze of red
At the edge, stretching outward
Slowly rising
Ahead in my eyes
Suddenly, old Sol peeks above
A bright glimmer of light
Cuts through the morning glow

Driving onward
Peace in the prairie
Dew shining on the grasses
A world so large and open
So many miles
To contemplate my life
Where I am now
On a morning drive
