Former tennis star Chris Evert says that her ovarian cancer has returned, marking her third bout with the disease, she wrote Thursday in an Instagram post. The retired player turned sports commentator, now 71, said that she will step back from professional tournaments and focus on her health while undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer.
Initially diagnosed in 2021, Evert has already received successful treatment for ovarian cancer twice. But CT and PET scans she received over the weekend showed that the cancer had returned, Evert wrote.
"I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks," she continued, adding that she will not attend Wimbledon or other work events "over the next few months" to focus on her health.
Evert described ovarian cancer as "relentless," but added that she intends to "stay optimistic."

Watching both you and Martina play was as good as it got.

(2,169 posts)If she has had ovarian cancer twice, why would her ovaries not have been removed by now? Is it possible to get ovarian cancer if they have already been removed?
Sorry for my ignorance on this matter. I'm genuinely curious about the answer.

(14,837 posts)It's quite good, especially considering that sports documentaries tend to be trite and avoid more complex issues, but this one examines how Chris's attractiveness was a boon to women's tennis, the impact of Martina's lesbianism on sponsorships, and the way their rivalry effected their friendship, which was pretty touch and go at points. Here's the trailer:
I've been watching lots of old timey women's tennis matches/clips on youtube -- Chris, Martina, Billie Jean, Steffi, Seles, Hingis, Davenport and doubles matches because I'm that much of a tennis nerd and I love seeing doubles from back in the day when it was *doubles* rather than just two players on the same side playing singles, so King-Casals, Wade-Stove, King-Navratilova, Hingis-Novatna, Hingis-Kournikova, etc etc etc -- the only priority being that they played incredible doubles. It's been lots of fun.
