On the nature of intelligence: can the process of evolution be thought to show a form of intelligence?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by eppur_se_muova (a host of the Science group).

Evolution has shown the ability to produce a spectacular array of elaborate biological processes and organs, yet hardly anyone (as far as I know) credits it with consciousness. As the human race expands its knowledge and experience, will we experience more phenomena where the issue of whether or not intelligence exists there is also perplexing?

If you are willing to expand your definition of "intelligence" without bound, there is nothing you can't "show". eppur_se_muova May 3 #1

Absolutely no intelligence is needed for natural selection to operate. It's statistics in material form.

These issues are "perplexing" if and only if you insist as thinking of them as such. This forum if for Science, not romantic thinking. Try this Forum: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1231
