or in 2016 the Electoral College selected, Trump to be president undermined Canadian faith in American democracy, such as it is.

I think the fact that Trump in 2024 not only won the cursed Electoral College, but also the popular vote, has pretty much destoyed that faith.

How can anyone ever again trust US voters not to go all in on facism and xenophobia after this? And it happened during a time of relative domestic peace and prosperity. Germany went for Hitler after a cushing defeat in a world war and a seemingly depthless economic depression.

If we could go with Trump in 2024, what might we do if and when times get truly tough?

But yes, "forever" is a long time.

Maybe we should just say: within our lifetimes.

Our relationship with ourself will never be the same so acknowledge that and move forward. It is clear that the US can not survive on four year administrations that do not hold true to our commitments to others. Our current set up is not sustainable so protect yourself while keeping one eye toward compassion should we change our ways in the future. PS. Sorry about screwing up all of those winter vacations. Gotta say I have warned my CA friends to stay home for the last ten years but they just couldn’t quit the pool and gated hotel on the beach. I guess visiting the worlds largest prison camp wasn’t as put offing as it would seem.
