since she was a police officer who owned the weapon. I wonder if he wanted her to get nailed since he knew the police would trace the gun back to her. And what is with the shoot out? It seems like he wants to go to jail for life.

was well known in the US so that is what makes me think he may have wanted to get even with her for something. He could have shot and killed her. That is sort of common when it comes to school shooters who are young. So is committing suicide after the murders. It looks like this guy did not want to die, he wanted to go to jail.
