Let's talk about Trump's fear of the midterms and polling.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump's fear of the midterms and polling.

Trump let some of his fears out into the public sphere while giving a little pep talk to the GOP ahead of the midterm season. He was speaking at the Kennedy Center when he said, "You've got to win the midterms because if we don't win the midterms, it's just going to be I mean, they'll find a reason to impeach me." He gave these remarks on January 6th.

He went on complaining about how Americans just don't understand his genius, saying, "They say that when you win the presidency, you lose the midterms. So, you're all brilliant people. Most of you are in this business longer than me. That makes me smarter than you because look where I am, right?" No, it doesn't. But I wish you could explain to me what the hell's going on with the mind of the public because we have a we have the right policy.

Reminder, Trump is saying this after threatening a NATO ally shortly after starting the only military operation since the turn of the millennia that a majority of Americans did not support the day it started. Looking over the polls, it looks like about four in 10 support going to grab Maduro and about 90% think the Venezuelan people, not the US, should determine the future of Venezuela.

And he started this military operation shortly after his party made sure that health insurance would skyrocket for tens of millions of Americans and that millions would lose their insurance, which he did shortly after starting a trade war with a country that captured large amounts of market share that was traditionally American, then agreed to bail that country out economically. while the farmers here are getting a bailout that isn't enough. Which happened shortly after he tried to turn US troops loose on American streets, which he did shortly after he pushed out about 10% of the federal workforce while managing to somehow also drive up federal spending. Oh, now he's going to garnish wages of people to recoup student debt the other political party wanted to forgive. And I think you get the point. But yeah, he doesn't understand why he's unpopular.

After complaining about his party declining in popularity, he then decided to talk about his party's health care plan, which after all this time still doesn't actually exist in any tangible way. But this is where it gets interesting. Trump then told Republicans in Congress to be flexible on the Hyde amendment. That's an old regulation that prohibits federal funding from going to abortion services. Oh, I'm sure his base will love that. I'm not even sure what he's trying to accomplish.

Trump is a man who will go down in history as the president who set reproductive rights back decades in this country. Nobody who cares about this issue is going to suddenly come to his side because now federal funding can go to something his party is criminalizing all over the country. His base, however, will be furious. To paraphrase, a very peaceful president. Nothing good can happen. It can only bad happen. It seems like Trump might have briefly ventured outside his media echo chamber and found out that he's not as popular as he believed. The most recent Gallup poll showed he had a 36% approval rating.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
