Man shot in parking lot of Route 9 Walmart in Queensbury - Glens Falls Post Star [View all]
QUEENSBURY A man was shot in the hip Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of the Route 9 Walmart, and police said they were actively looking for the shooter Sunday night.
The Warren County Sheriffs Office, in a news release issued about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, said a male victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and was undergoing medical treatment after being transported by ambulance to the hospital. Police were called to the scene at 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
Employees told The Post-Star that they were informed by a store manager at about 4 p.m. that the shooting involved two people in a fight outside the store. The employees said they believed the two people were store patrons and were not employees of the store.
The victim, they said they were told, suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Police, in a later news release, described it as a hip wound.
The incident occurred near the general merchandise entrance on the left side of the store, employees said.
Three employees, waiting to be picked up outside the grocery entrance after the store closed early because of the violence, and a fourth employee exiting from the auto service center, said they were asked by management to go home. The store closed to the public after the shooting incident but reopened Sunday night.
Police said Walmart was evacuated and closed out of an abundance of caution and that no part of the incident occurred inside of the store, it all took place outside in the parking lot.
Warren County Sheriff Jim LaFarr was on the scene Sunday afternoon.
The public is not at risk, LaFarr said while standing in the rain.
No suspect had been arrested as of Sunday evening.
The news release stated that police are involved in an active investigation and are working to identify a suspect and/or a suspect vehicle and will provide updates as information becomes available. ... There is no reason to believe there is a threat or concern to the general public.
The Sheriffs Office is leading the investigation, but state police personnel were assisting at the scene.
Police are asking anyone with information or who may have captured video or photos of the incident to contact the Warren County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations Unit at 518-743-2500, option #1.
