A priest disparaged Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales and LGBTQ. Was it hate speech?
A Catholic priest attacked Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales and the LGBTQ community on Facebook in a way that advocates and allies of that community describe as hate speech.
{snip}
But this blew up without any push from Canales. Nancy Vera, a longtime LULAC official and current president of the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers, wrote to Corpus Christi Diocese officials demanding action. The post has been taken down. Attempts to reach Bishop Michael Mulvey, his spokeswoman and Farfaglia were unsuccessful Monday.
The Mosaic Project of South Texas, organizer of the June 8 PRIDE parade and PRIDE Week activities, has issued a statement thanking Canales for her advocacy and support of the historically discriminated-against LGBTQIA+ community.
"Judge Canales' opposition to discrimination and support of inclusion is a beautiful example of God's love of all people," according to the statement.
So, what did this priest, James Fafaglia say? Here:
Homosexuality is not a sin. The act of sodomy is, Pope Francis has said, Farfaglia said. The only hope and then the LGBTQ plus, whatever values are not the values of Corpus Christi, Texas. And theyre not the values of South Texas.
